Less shine to live better.
First of all, do you know what the Old Money style is?
“old money” which brings the concept of heirs of great fortunes that accumulate from generation to generation.
This is the concept for fashion, but could it be used for the home?
Yes. But I can already tell you that “trend” is outside of style, so if you are attracted to passing fashions, Old Money is not your style, neither for fashion nor for the home.
It refers to the style of the born heirs of bourgeois families, who live a luxurious life based on fortunes accumulated over generations, but are discreet, do not show off, and value tradition and sophistication. They value classic and durable pieces and avoid passing fashions.
This sums up high-quality classic furniture.
“The art that ennobles with time”.
When it comes to living well, my phrase is:
"Take off your shoes and enjoy."
I'm in favor of a house that feels like a home, with life, emotional memories, with that junk drawer, with children's drawings, photos on the memory wall, vases with plants and natural flowers, a bookshelf with books...
The home is our sanctuary, it is where the sacred lives, where our greatest asset rests, feeds, recovers and recharges its energy for the next day.
We need to become aware that life goes on, everything is automatic, controlled, with a button, on our cell phone and it is at home that we need to detach ourselves from the chaotic external world.
If the house reflects the outside world, we never rest, we get irritated and we don't even realize how much the environment influences us.
The so-called "trend" is to live in a box-style house with an entrance door the size of a portal, it looks like a shopping mall, but it isn't.
It's a house that doesn't tell the family's story, that has no objects, it's empty, minimalist.
This minimalism in homes is funny, the house has "less", but it has a TV the size of the wall, a giant refrigerator for one or two people at most and a straight sofa for 12 people to sit in a row.
Why this standardization mixed with ostentation?
As if the finished, which are among the most expensive and unfortunately lacking in harmony, were not enough, there is visual pollution with lots of glass, lots of shine, lots of LED and little life.
Where is the house that feels like home? Where is the problem in having a cozy home that embraces and welcomes?
I believe the problem is the lack of professional education to discuss with the client when making choices, what the needs and routine of the house are and what living well means for that family. On the other hand, on the resident's side, many think that shiny fixtures and lots of glass are synonymous with sophistication, but it is exactly the opposite. The fashion story of " old money" also applies to decorating the house.
A well-decorated home does not have pillows with fake crystal pendants.
What I write is so true that I can prove it.
Have you ever noticed that refuges (many of the most expensive places to travel/tourism) are the places that feel like home?
Guesthouses with wooden beds, canopies with veils, sofas with cushions that embrace us, and so on. Some projects have a more simplistic style, leaning towards the rustic, and others with touches of sophistication but without losing the essence of a home that welcomes us.
Are they beach houses with a fisherman's house feel or country houses with a farm feel? Why is that?
Psychology explains. This type of environment reminds us of memories, feelings and makes us relax. It disconnects us from automatic mode, since it is so different from the architectural mass we live in today.
The idea of these investors is fantastic, as they earn from what we could have in the comfort of our homes if the choices of projects, furniture and finishes were for the true well-being of the resident and not for ostentation.
A house can be sophisticated and comfortable without looking like "grandma's" house, as many pejoratively say.
But we know that when they want to experience good memories, cuddles, hugs and a delicious cake, they know where to go, right?
And your home, is it your refuge?
And when I get home,
take off your shoes and make yourself comfortable.
