#4 Habits that Can Help for Chronic Disease Prevention by Health Coach VPD.

Cancer, obesity, depression, alzheimer's, are some of the chronic diseases that are growing over the years. When we talk about having a healthy lifestyle, it does not mean one will never have a disease. However, if one has a healthier life it can help prevent one from being sick, or simply delay the disease. Have you ever wondered, “why only now this person got this or that?” “But this person was doing so well before. Then suddenly they get sick?” There are some diseases that “are silent.” But I believe that maybe the reason why it took so long for someone to get sick, could also be perhaps because of their eating habits, for example. Or perhaps because this person is constantly practicing physical activity.

Here are four habits that can help for chronic disease prevention:

1. Meditation or “Quiet Time.” (3 main areas of our body that are being helped.)

Image owned and created by Lifestyle Unstoppable.

I had a time of my life that before going to bed, I'd take fifteen-twenty minutes to meditate. It was great, and it actually helped me to relax. However, after a while, I could no longer concentrate anymore, and meditation became something a little bit disturbing to me. Some people love it, some hate it, and that's alright. The real meditation does not necessarily mean you're closing your eyes, taking deep breaths, and “going to the center of the Earth.” It can be reading, drawing, taking deep breaths with eyes open if you wish, drinking a cup of coffee calmly, something that helps you to relax and that doesn't do harm to you.

Nowadays, my kind of meditation is my coffee with milk. I do go out sometimes, or see the view from the window, but with work and university, it happens to me to stay home and practically have time for nothing. But I do encourage you to take this time for yourself. Even if it is for five minutes.

Our brain:

How to Think Outside Your Brain.” (June 11, 2021.)

According to recent studies, our brain can only concentrate for two hours straight. I know… it's “nothing,” right? With our busy schedules, the correct way to relax our brain, is if we at least take a break of thirty minutes, and then go back to our task. After two hours, same thing again.

The advantage of “meditating,” or taking this time for yourself, is because besides helping your brain to relax and receive more information without getting it too tired, it can also support your heart health.

Our heart:

Did you know that many people who have heart attacks or other heart disease are due to stress, besides having a possible poor diet? I am not saying that these are the only causes. However, if you tend to stress more often, and you don't eat well, it can help your heart to get sick. By meditating or relaxing, it helps your heart to beat calmer. Taking longer breaths, actually do help our heart to “slow down,” for a bit, and relax for a moment. Which this will bring to the third area of our body we'll be talking about:

Nervous System:

“What Do the Different Parts of The Nervous System Do?”

We have the sympathetic nervous system, and the parasympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system is related to when our body is in danger. By the time we used to hunt (pretty old times, huh?), our ancestors faced many dangers, including hunting wild animals. This running, the anxiety of survival, is when our sympathetic nervous system is “activated.” The issue is that our body does not know how to differentiate between running from a bear and stressed because your client didn't show up. When our sympathetic nervous system is activated very often, it can influence a lot on our health. So, try to activate your parasympathetic nervous system more often! If you are interested about this topic, I have a video on my YouTube channel: Victoria's Lifestyle “Nervous System and Stress.”

So, start taking more time for yourself to relax. I know sometimes 24 hours a day seems nothing, but we are only humans, and if we don't relax for a moment, our brain won't understand the message we are sending to it. Have you seen those students who spent the whole day studying, but unfortunately don't get the grades they wanted to? It is not because they “studied too much.” It could be because they are so tired and stressed, that they can easily not pay attention, and therefore don't remember the correct answer. You don't want to waste your time “trying” to learn something if you are not with a “cleaned mind.” The key is definitely to study, but to study smart, not hard ;)

2. Physical Activity (Tips to start moving your body)

Image owned and crated by Lifestyle Unstoppable.

Physical activity can help prevent depression, diabetes (which can lead to obesity depending on one's intakes and diet.), help you to have a better sleep, support muscle and bone's health, and also stress, as many other benefits.

It is recommended to do thirty minutes a day of physical activity. However, if you are beginning this journey now, take it easy, and choose something that you like, and that you have by your side a coach who will assist you.

With our technology that brought so many good things, we get very busy with it. Nowadays, it's pretty much impossible to not have a computer, a phone, or an Ipad with you. Our jobs require certain technologies. But, sometimes we forget that physical activity is essential, and a sedentary lifestyle can take away this exercise time.

Tips to start moving your body:

  • Instead of getting the elevator, try the stairs if you can.
    • If you are watching TV, or when taking breaks, get your butt on the floor, and stretch.
    • If you are able to go to places by walking or riding your bike, do it.
    • Dance- People think dance is not physical activity, but trust me, it is. The fact you're moving, helps a lot your body.

    3. Healthy Eating (The colorful rainbow: Full of vitamins, antioxidant properties, helps combat disease, strengthen your immune system, and much more.)

Image created and owned by Lifestyle Unstoppable.

You might be tired to read about eating habits. We post a lot, of course, but it's because Lifestyle Unstoppable believes that through food, many problems can be avoided, and so an improvement in our health can happen. Healthy foods can prevent diabetes because you'll most likely eat more fruits instead of industrialized sweets, it can prevent depression- Fast foods can be related to depression, obesity, and inflammatory diseases. Healthy foods can help you to strengthen your immune system, they can change your menstrual cycle (for the best), sex, mood, you tend to stress less, pay more attention, and may other things I could be writing about.

The idea about having healthier habits it's not that you will never have any disease, but it can definitely help to delay it, or to not have it at all. Eating healthy and obtaining healthier habits, it's about prevention and a lighter way of living.

    The Rainbow Meal:

    • Start adding greens to your rice and beans.
    • Start adding beets, carrots, and sweet potatoes to your salad.
    • Start adding blueberry, strawberry, and banana to your ice creams.
    • Start adding tomatoes, corn, and chickpeas to your meals.
    • Start adding more vegetables and fruits to your day.

    4. Be Kind to Yourself. (Your mind and heart appreciate it.)

Image created and owned by Lifestyle Unstoppable.

You can't have a healthy body with a sick mind. I always say this phrase and it's even in the bio of my Instagram (@victoriaparadad) “It's impossible to talk about foods without talking about mental health.” Society has a big pressure on us, but before blaming society, I'll blame our comparisons. We tend to compare ourselves to a lot. And although this begins with society, this can be up to us to decide if we want to try to change or not.

It is not easy, but it is possible. No one can be like you, and you can't be like other people. The idea about being unique is not being better or less than anyone, but to believe that you were born this way, and that's the beauty of it. There is no “perfect body,” “perfect face,” “perfect human being.” We are made of mistakes and qualities, skills, and difficulties, and that's okay. Take it easy with yourself. You are your first home.
